My Job

I lead the energy, sustainability and transport practice at Grayling, Brussels. With an excellent team of consultants, we help clients understand the implications of EU policies and engage in an effective and targeted manner. In addition to leading the work of our consultants, I provide strategic advice that is tailored to the needs of our clients.

My Experience

I bring around 15 years of experience in shaping policies and markets. My background is a blend of EU civil service, politics and corporate.

My diverse EU career gave me valuable insights into how policies are really made and how the different EU institutions work. Over the course of a decade, I worked in three EU institutions. I started as a bluebook trainee and became the youngest Secretary General. My experience ranges from helping draft text for the Commissioner, to taking part in Council Working Group meetings, to working on European Parliament opinion preparations and negotiations, to government and political party engagements.

Standing in European elections and national elections also gave me a personal insights on what an effective campaign looks like. From personally doing live media interviews to public debates, I ran a campaign that made a difference on the policy topics I targeted.

Prior to joining Grayling, I was working for a globally leading agritech company. There, I held roles covering public affairs and communications and also held a global marketing leadership role. Having worked inhouse, I understand what businesses usually look for in public affairs and public relations support. I also know firsthand the importance of effective campaigns in supporting business priorities and how this can make a real difference to the bottomline of a business.

My Proudest Achievements

It is always humbling to contribute to the EU decision-making process.

From the EU’s 7th Environmental Action Programme, to the Common Agriculture Policy reforms to the EU’s trade negotiations to the EU’s mobility package to the EU’s approach to disaster risk management – I have enjoyed making a contribution and seeing the wording I drafted reflected in the final EU decision.

I am especially proud of having made friends across the political spectrum as the best outcomes are achieved in policy-making processes when we are able to build trust and achieve open dialogue.

My Education

I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Kent,
Canterbury and SciencesPo Paris. I then did a Master degree focusing on the EU (Politics and Government in the EU) at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE). I have also completed executive training at Harvard Business School.

My Languages

English, French, Turkish. I also have intermediate German and beginner Finnish and Dutch knowledge.

My Interests outside work

I am an avid yogi and love being out in nature. I also do love dancing and did the opening waltz dance at the Hungarian ball in my first 6 months in Brussels.

My Favourite Brussels anecdote

I still remember the Presidency of the Council of the EU who would bring out whisky when negotiations had been going on for too long so as to get things wrapped up. No names given!
