My Job
I am a partner in the Brussels office and in the global public affairs practice. I support clients in adapting to and engaging in the evolution of economic policy in the EU. This includes advocacy campaigns, operational scenario planning and political risk management, particularly for firms and investors operating across borders.
My Experience
I joined FGS from Global Counsel where I spent ten years building teams to provide public policy expertise to the private sector, with a focus latterly on energy and financial services. I previously spent over a decade in the UK and Austrian governments negotiating EU regulations and advising ministers on industrial strategy.
My Specialisms
My Proudest Achievements
In our world, the biggest wins are always those of the client rather than the consultant. But I will always remember the buzz in my team when we learned that getting a judgement right on the direction of a trade negotiation led a multinational board to proceed with an investment.
My Education
Philosophy, German and Economics at Universities of Edinburgh and Vienna.
My Languages
English, German and French.
My Interests outside work
Going outside, whether running, sailing or hiking, ideally with a willing (or even reluctant) member of the family.
My Favourite Brussels anecdote
Spending weeks on a speech for my minister to deliver to his counterparts at a Council dinner, only to watch them put it aside and say they should all focus on getting to know each other. With hindsight they were right but I was silently horrified at the time.
