My Job
I advise corporate and trade association clients with interest in EU and global policies on food and sustainability, designing and implementing public affairs strategies, building partnerships and executing strategic communications. I also serve in the secretariat of a major international association.
My Experience
I have dedicated most of my career to public policy, and I bring both consulting and public service experience to my advisory work.
Before joining Edelman, I worked at Landmark Public Affairs and the European Consulting Company, primarily advising clients in the food and beverage sector on EU and global policies on food, nutrition and health, particularly in relation to the EU, WHO and the wider UN system.
I served as a Policy Officer at the European Commission’s DG Health and Food Safety with responsibilities across public health, food and nutrition policy, as well as a Communication Officer in DG Communication.
My Specialisms
My Proudest Achievements
Working with an international association at a time of critical changes in the policy environment impacting the business of its members in the EU and other regions. Building a common position, leading coordinated advocacy, and mobilising stakeholders across the sector and beyond, led to a stronger voice of the sector, ensured its perspective informed the policy debate, and allowed risk mitigation and opportunity enablement.
In doing so, I also built the PA function of the association and an ecosystem of partner organisations, which have since been strengthened and continue to deliver on the goals of the member companies.
My Education
- Journalism with a Minor in History, BA (Magna Cum Laude), Ithaca College, USA
- Spanish Literature, BA (Hons, Magna Cum Laude), Ithaca College, USA
- Master’s degree ‘The European Union. Management of Community Resources and International Relations’, (Mención de excelencia), Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain
My Languages
English, Spanish, Bulgarian, French.
My Interests outside work
Reading a good book on a rainy Belgian day. Running, Ving Tsun, baking.
My Favourite Brussels anecdote
I was in a conversation with several companies and trade associations when a past EU framework for voluntary Member State policy measures was brought up. One of the people in the group made a point that the European Commission should have listened more to the industry at the time. I realised I was one of the people who had worked on that framework. It drove home the point about diverse perspectives and the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach to policy-making.
